Intergalactic Getdown! is about a group of college students in an alien galaxy that form a volunter student organization known as the "Intergalactic Getdown", a group committed to the preservation of hip hop on campus. Their duties include the organization of parties and other hip hop events, as well as acting as a watchdog over the school administration & any other individuals that might threaten to disrupt the culture of hip hop at the university.

The university was founded by Professor Hercules Hip-Hopulous, who enriched it with a lively artistic community and glorified the elements now known under the collective moniker of "hip hop" - graffiti, breakdancing, emceeing and deejaying. After his death the school was taken over by the Microworld Corporation who have no respect for hip hop culture, but rather specialize in the commercial aspects of university globaspheres - self contained community space stations where kids go to school and live within the campus community.

The university globasphere format (originally popularized by Hip-Hopulous) proved to be highly profitable, and soon Microworld was buying up many of the globaspheres in their attempt to control the galaxy, painting over much of the original graffiti and eliminating many of the elements of the hip hop culture - to the students' protest. Microworld was contractually obliged to uphold the original school charter written by Hip-Hopulous in their purchase of the university, and therefore forced to maintain some of the campus culture as well protection of a student's union. This protection now extends to the Intergalactic Getdown group who keep a watchful eye over Microworld's activities and it's subversive attempts at elimination of the hip hop culture.

Characters include Orbit - school president, little, old, green, grouchy guy; Milky Faye - school administrator, works under Orbit and gives the kids hell; The Brain - weird, mythical figure that lives underground at the university's power core, supposedly running everything, and nothing more than a brain encased in a glass shell; Skool Spirit - the spirit of Hip-Hopulous that supposedly haunts the school; Ego - smart, nerdy kid. occasionally works for school administration as an enemy to the Intergalactic Getdown kids; Meteor Rock - a club on campus where the kids hang out and throw parties; the Intergalactic Getdown kids: Supernova - hot chick with blue skin; Adeeduz Five - only communicates by way of freestyle rapping, wears enormous shoes that grant special powers; Comet - short and speedy funny guy; Launchpad - big athlete, doesn't talk much, not the greatest personality, but serves as good security; Rolla Boogie - good girl with a lot of attitude.
